BIOGRAPHY

Sarah Danielson has been a Poughkeepsie resident for 21 years. She graduated from Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in 2014, having won scholastic art gold keys for her ceramic pieces. She now goes to Alfred University where she is going into her senior year, where by 2018, she will have earned a bachelor degree in fine arts with a minor in psychology. Sarah, ever since she was little, loved to create and make with her imagination, She enjoys how it givers her the ability to let go and let her mind run free with all the possibilities. She draws inspiration for her artwork from her life around her, through observations of nature, animals and people’s appearances and behaviors.
She went to school planning to concentrate in ceramics, while she still loves to sculpt and make a piece out of nothing but her clay and her hands, she has found she also loves to paint, making something look three dimensional on a two dimensional surface, and also painting her sculptures instead of glazing them.

In her free time she does community service and volunteers. In the past she has participated in Poughkeepsie cleanups, given cello lessons to children, played cello in the community orchestra at Alfred and volunteered at a Sundays Children’s program where she did crafts with kids. Recently, Sarah had the oppurtunity to volunteer to teach art at an English as a second language program in the country of Ukraine at the school Life English. This was an amazing opportunity and a once in a lifetime experience. It was a rewarding to see the smiles on the children’s faces as they learned and explored their creativity. She will be going back next year and hopes to make it a yearly venture.

Sarah plans on furthering her education by attending graduate school for education. Her ultimate goal is becoming an art education teacher, working with children with disabilities. She also hopes to someday build her own kiln so she can continue making her own work on the side.
